Our Vehicles

The rental fleet at Illinois State University has a vehicle to suit any travel need, from sedans to large vehicles with tow capability. Wherever you need to go-we can help you get there! Every vehicle in our fleet is routinely maintained and prepped by experienced garage technicians before a trip, meaning Redbirds are riding SAFELY during every mile. Here's a look at what type of vehicles the rental fleet offers:

Sedans: Ford Fusion Hybrids, Dodge Avengers and Ford Focuses make up our fleet of sedans. Some sedans are equipped with Bluetooth capability and Sirius XM radio. Sedans can accommodate up to 5 people.

Minivans: Our Dodge Caravans can accommodate up to 7 people. We even have a "ReggieVan" outfitted in Reggie decals so you can ride with Redbird pride. All of the minivans have a stow and go option to store the seats.

Pick up Truck: We do have a pick up available in the rental fleet for easy transport of items which are not easily loaded into vans. It has a topper and a hitch for towing. Large trailers need to be approved by the Transportation Manager. Please Include trailer type and payload on Vehicle Reservation Request.

12 Passenger Vans: These passenger vans are desirable for large group transportation. Three of our 12 passenger vans are equipped with tow capability. Bench row seats can be removed to allow for additional storage. DRIVERS FOR THIS VEHICLE MUST BE CERTIFIED EVERY 4 YEARS. To register for certification, please email [email protected].

ADA Accessible Van: Our ADA accessible van can accommodate one wheelchair plus five other occupants, or two wheelchairs and three other occupants. Special ADA van training is REQUIRED before using this vehicle.

15 Passenger Minibus: If a 12 passenger van is not large enough, we have 15 passenger minibuses available. Drivers for minibuses MUST be certified. Online training and a hands on driving test are required.

Box Truck: At 14' deep, 81" tall, and 90" wide, the box truck can transport a multitude of items. Training is required.

School Bus and Charter Bus Reservations: 

University departments work directly with Charter Vendors to secure their charter reservations. For information about how to schedule a charter reservation, please contact the Purchasing Office at [email protected]. Departments should initiate charter bus arrangements directly with University-approved vendors when possible. To ensure availability, departments should contact these vendors well in advance of their trip. As a reminder, Charter services require a contract that should be routed, reviewed, and signed by Purchasing to ensure that the University and State requirements are addressed. Questions about securing a charter reservation should be directed to the Purchasing Office, (309) 438-1946.

• Once you complete the Fleet Driver Certification course, you will be given a certification of completion. Please email this certificate to [email protected] the same day it is received. 

The Fleet Driver Certification course is required before driving a Passenger Van. This course must also be taken prior to Minibus/Mini School Bus orientation.

• Once a driver is passenger van certified, it is active for four years.  After that time, the driver will need to complete the online training course again to re-certify for the next four years.
• Minibus or mini school bus driver certification does not expire or require re-certification.
• Email [email protected] to schedule an in-person orientation for minibus/mini school bus and/or the ADA van.

ALL UNIVERSITY RENTAL FLEET VEHICLES ARE EQUIPPED WITH IPASS TRANSPONDERS. Any tolls incurred that do not accept IPASS are the responsibility of the driver and/or driver's department. You can find more information on where IPASS is accepted here.
